“One Bike: Yours.” Perhaps my favorite motto of all time, Seven has delivered that promise since 1997. The world’s largest custom frame builder, Seven has a robust, intuitive order process that will take you from idea to fruition in just a matter of weeks. Be it titanium or a ti/carbon fiber mix, performance drives each of their designs ensuring your Seven will be the best companion for the road, path, or trail ahead. Fabricated in Watertown, Massachusetts these bikes are beautiful, yes, but work best when ridden hard and ridden often.
If you know me at all, you know that Seven Cycles is near and dear to my heart on many levels. I worked at the factory for a decade, and only left to peddle their bikes at my own shop. True Cyclery sells more Sevens than any other brand we offer, they are our bread and butter. There is so much more to discuss, but in the mean time, here are some of our recent Seven builds:
Charlie is a runner first and a rider second, he made that clear. He wanted a modern performance road bike to replace his many decades old, though trusty, steed. After demoing a few bikes on a ride in France, he knew discs and electronics were in order. He came to True Cyclery on the advice of a friend, and we discussed just how how much he loved riding up and down the big peaks in France, and what attributes he wanted his new bike to have.
How did Seven build his Axiom XX to ensure it’ll get him up and over East Rock and the Col du Tourmalet? With beefy stays, a stealthy but still shippable internally routed rear brake cable, and lightweight build of SRAM Red AXS, Chris King bits and wheels, and an Enve cockpit.
His first impression: “Feels great, nice range of speeds for climbing Holiday hill. Smooth ride.”
Marine rides as hard as she races be it road, cross, or gravel. Over the years she has accumulated a number of bikes, none quite right for the riding she does, and none that match the fit she loved a few bikes back. She came to True Cyclery to thin the herd as she tries to whittle her collection down to two bikes, road race and gravel. Up first, a road racing machine.
How did Seven build her Axiom XX to ensure it’s the fastest bike she’ll ever ride? Stout, oversized chain stays for explosive take off, traction generating s-bend seat stays to keep the tires planted, aero wheels and a lightweight carbon cockpit to ensure she isn’t dragging any unnecessary weight.
Her first impression: “Karl! It was even better than I could’ve ever imagined it would be. Perfection. On the first ride!!!!? So smoooooooooooth.”
Paul rides to train so he can ride to win. His speciality is triathlon, but he came to True Cyclery for a gravel race bike. He wanted speed, durability, and dependability. He travels all over the country to compete and wanted his bike to be versatile enough to handle big tires and small, high gearing and low.
How did Seven build his Evergeen XX to help give him a leg up on the competition? 700c tire clearance for 42mm tires, and 650b clearance for 47mm. Short, dropped chain stays for responsiveness, and an aggressive fit to keep him low and aero. Shimano’s Di2 components for precise shifts, and hydraulic brakes for one finger stopping power.
His first impression: “Like butter!”
Huda is a researcher and before she ever made it to True Cyclery, knew more about her next bike than anyone I have ever worked with. At nearly five feet tall her first hurdle was simply finding a bike that would fit, but if she could do that she had big plans for it, namely, riding all over the earth, but first to and from work, and in local group and organized rides.
How did Seven build her Axiom S&S bike to fit like a glove and excel in front and backcountry life? Thanks to a robust order process Huda’s fit was dialed in first, and done so around 700c wheels. Next they installed S&S couplers which lets her break the bike down into an case small enough to avoid oversize charges on airlines, and fit easily in cabs and Ubers. The parts spec is built for field repairs with mechanical shifting and braking with all cables routed externally for added convenience.
Her first impression: “OH MY GOD!! Yesss!!! WHOAA IT’S SO FAST!!!!! Amazing! And the fit is perfect!!! I’m so happy!!!”
