Tune-Ups
We offer complete tune-ups so you can enjoy a perfectly performing bike and have been told we care more about your bike than even you do. Set up an appointment, or talk to us about our pick up and drop off service. We offer three levels of tune ups to get your bike in tip top shape:
Big Ride Ready – $100
Our basic tune up service will have you ready for your next important ride. We start with a complete inspection of your bike, which includes a light cleaning, to determine what needs adjustments, lubing, and/or additional focus to perform as it should. We’ll clean and lube your chain with Rock-N-Roll Gold* an all in one lubricant, in that it cleans and lubes simultaneously. We’ll follow up with you once these steps are taken to schedule a pick up, or discuss any red flags** that we’d like to address before giving the bike a clean bill of health.
Season Starter – $200
The idea behind the name is that you’d bring in your bike after putting it away for the winter, or after a heavy, sweat producing indoor training off season. No matter what you chose to do with your bike this off season, we’ll get it ready for heavy use with a detailed tune up. Everything in the Big Ride Ready tune is included, plus we’ll ensure your wheels are true and their bearings tight. We’ll remove, clean, and lube the pulley wheels and bottom bracket. Lastly we’ll clean your chain and cassette via the ultrasonic cleaner, ensuring your drivetrain is performing at it’s absolute peak, you can choose between any of our chain lubes, including premium options from Silca and Ceramicspeed. We’ll follow up with you once these steps are taken to schedule a pick up, or discuss any red flags** that we’d like to address before giving the bike a clean bill of health.
Complete Bike Overhaul – $350
An overhaul consists, more or less, of removing and detailing each part to get it as clean as we can, then giving it a pro build. This service includes everything in our less involved tune ups, plus holding each component in our hands and cleaning them individually before rebuilding your bike.
Upgrades –
*Ultrasonic Upgrade – We offer an upgrade service to start your chain and cassette over from scratch with a deep ultrasonic clean followed by an application of a higher end chain lube – your choice of Ceramicspeed UFO or Silca Synergetic Wet – for the best performing, quietest riding experience. $50
*Chain Waxing Service – Want to extend the life of your chain? Talk to us about hot waxing your chain. Waxing service is $40 extra on any new chain purchased at True Cyclery. We use Silca Super Secret wax.
**Common red flags to be on the look out for:
- Cables & Housing – Cables break down over time, and we recommend new shifter cables once a year, or every three thousand miles. Cables are inexpensive, but ensure your bike shifts predictably. $10 – $25. Housing can last longer, but breaks down as well, we recommend replacing every two cable swaps. In addition, housing should be cut long enough to allow the bike’s handlebars to turn freely left and right. $10 – $25 or so as well.
- Brake Bleed – Hydraulic brakes should be bled if they are feeling mushy, and once a year or so to ensure they are performing at their best. $50 to bleed both brakes, or $35 per.
- Chain Stretch – Chains can last anywhere from two thousand to five thousand miles or so before they require replacement. We measure your chain to see how much life it has left. Traditional chains cost between $30 and $70.
- Cassette Wear – Cassettes are harder to measure than chains, but are intimately connected to chain life, the more frequently you replace your chain, the less frequently you’ll need a new cassette. Cassettes cost $50 to $500 or so.
- Brake Pad Wear – Brake pads need replacing, a visual inspection will help us estimate how much longer you can, or can’t go before replacements are needed. Brake pads vary wildly from system to system but expect to pay $15 – $50 a wheel.
- Bar Tape – Bar tape is built to provide comfort and grip while holding on to your bars, but sweat, the elements, and spills all take there toll. In addition, bar tape often disintegrates when removing it to install new housing. Bar tape is cheap, and a quick way to make your bike both look and feel new. $15 – $75.
- Tires – Naturally, the rubber on the road also breaks down over time, usually noticed by more frequent flats, cracked tread or sidewalls, or a lack of reassurance in corners. Tires are a quick way to make your bike look and feel new, and fast, depending on tire selection. $40 to $150 a tire.
- Bearings – Inside your hubs, bottom bracket, and headset are tiny ball bearings that determine how smooth, or how rough your components turn. It’s not uncommon for bearings to provide thousands of miles of use before a repacking, or a replacement is required. $30 – $300.
- Sealant – Tubeless sealant dries up over time, it’s important to ensure your tubeless set up is filled with fresh sealant. $1.50 an ounce or so.
Packing a Bike to Ship – $150 (plus shipping fees)
We will happily pack and ship most bikes (no e-bikes, no ISP bikes, etc) if you provide us with a bike box. We wrap main tubes with foam pipe covers, and use a mix of recycled/reused cardboard, foam, bubble wrap, etc., to ensure everything is as protected as it can be. We have shipped hundreds of bikes over the past several decades, and have yet to have an issue, but we cannot guarantee that your bike will arrive safely and take no responsibility for it once it leaves our facility. We ship using UPS via Bikeflights, and pass that cost on to you in addition to the $150 fee. Whether or not you want to insure the package is up to you, and a quote for insurance will be provided.
Pro Bike Build – $300
You provide the frame, fork, and parts, we build it.
Bike Fitting
Whether your bike is new or old, taking the time to be professionally fit can help you increase your enjoyment on the bike through better power transfer and efficiency while minimizing the risk of injury. Fitting sessions typically take about two hours and can be conducted at your home or office, or wherever is most convenient to you. We can optimize your fit with the equipment you have, and discuss any improvements new components might make. A bike fitting session costs $150.
Advisor
We have found that some cyclists simply want an educated, listening ear to bounce ideas off of, whether it be to discuss a used bike or a bike available from another retailer. Should you find yourself unsure or wavering on pulling the trigger, feel free to use us as an unbiased advisor, we will not push our own products unless asked. Our advisory service is $60 an hour.

April 21, 2021Recently needed to overhaul my Seven Evergreen due to a bike accident.
Within two weeks I had my bike and was riding again. It would not have been done this quickly without the wisdom and professionalism of Karl.
Karl had the forsight to send my frame back immediately to Seven to check for frame integrity. It checked out ok and it was back in his shop in less than four days.
In addition Karl worked with me in getting the correct handlebar, stem, fork, wheel, seatpost, and other parts needed suitable to getting the bike back to my standards.
Needless to say the bike is better than ever.
I have known Karl for almost five years. He is the real deal. A true friend and a great mechanic.
